About Salt Spring Island, BC

Salt Spring Island is the largest and most populated of the Canadian Gulf Islands and lies off the east coast of Vancouver Island, midway between Victoria and Vancouver, BC.

It is known as one of North America's best small arts communities (for the population, there is a very large number of performing and visual artists).

Ganges is the primary village on Salt Spring and has excellent accommodation, shops, galleries, restaurants, and other services, all within easy walking distance. The climate is mild year round.

You might want to book an extra day or two on the island, either before or after the workshop, to enjoy all that Salt Spring has to offer.

Art enthusiasts can visit the many galleries on the island, or take the self-guided artist studio tour. There is also a very popular Saturday Morning Market from May to September (for both artistic and culinary purchases!), a performing arts centre, and a very active live music scene on the island.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the island offers visitors a wide variety of activities including hiking, biking, sailing, kayaking, beachcombing, swimming at one of the four designated public beaches, horseback riding (tours are available), rock climbing, hang gliding, golfing on one of two 9-hole courses, and more.
